Customer Success Story | BC Ministry of Forests - Wildfire Service

Government / Public Sector Workforce Readiness and Safety Credential Management for Wildfire Response

Shift iQ provides a centralized capability management platform supporting workforce readiness and qualification management for the BC Ministry of Forests' wildfire response program, BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

BCWS operates in a high-risk, high-readiness environment where having appropriately trained and qualified people ready to respond is critical. With a large and geographically dispersed workforce, BCWS needed a reliable and accessible way to manage learning, training records, certifications, and workforce readiness.

The platform supports credential tracking, instructor endorsement, records management, course coordination, logbooks, and reporting, giving BCWS a consistent way to manage organization-wide training and qualification information within a single system.

Implementation focused on aligning LMS configuration with how training and certifications are managed in operational environments. Interface design, backend data structures, and reporting outputs were configured to support existing processes and make it easier to track and report training activity, qualifications, and readiness data without relying as heavily on manual processes.

Shift iQ enables flexible learning across roles, including frontline responders, support teams, and leadership. Automated tracking helps BCWS manage certification progress, renewal dates, and compliance requirements, while role-specific learning pathways aligned to the Incident Command System (ICS) help guide employees through the training required for each role. Robust administrative and reporting tools provide greater visibility into workforce readiness and support workforce planning with secure, auditable delivery of training content and assessments that can be integrated with other existing systems.

With employees located throughout British Columbia, accessibility and flexibility were important considerations. The online training that is delivered through Shift iQ doesn’t require installation of new software, enabling BCWS employees to access learning real-time without having to travel, an important benefit for a geographically dispersed workforce responsible for responding to approximately 1,600-2,000 wildfires annually. The platform supports structured course delivery and tracking aligned to operational training requirements.

Accessibility is supported through structured delivery configuration, which ensures a consistent experience across user environments.

The platform also supports multilingual delivery, maintaining a consistent structure for learner access, reporting visibility, and operational oversight.
